What rebates are available to help pay for Speech Therapy?
GP Chronic Condition Management plan (GPCCMP)
Formerly the CDM/care plan or EPC was renamed by Medicare on the 1st of July 2025.
For children with a condition lasting or expected to last 6 months or more
Your GP decides eligibility and provides the referral.
No special referral form is needed. A standard GP referral letter now applies.
Covers up to 5 partially rebated allied health sessions per calendar year.
Those five are shared across all allied health (e.g., speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy), not five per service.
M10 pathway (Complex neurodevelopmental disorders and eligible disabilities)
For children and young people under 25 years of age
Covers eligible conditions such as stuttering and speech sound disorders, including childhood apraxia of speech and cleft lip/palate, autism and ADHD.
Children suspected of (not only diagnosed with) an eligible condition may access it.
Referral is required from a GP, pediatrician, or specialist.
Covers up to 8 assessment and 20 treatment sessions across a lifetime.
Can be used alongside a GP CCMP if your child is eligible for both.
Requires a long consultation with your GP first.

Many “extras” policies include speech pathology
Cover and annual limits vary between funds and levels of cover, so it's worth checking your policy before booking
NDIS
If your child has a disability affecting everyday communication, the NDIS may fund speech pathology
